Back in  1951, William Stepp and  his wife Marion and  William's brother Carl set out to open up a sewing machine retail  and repair store. Back in the early years they would offer to come to customer homes and give free demonstrations of their machines.  William and Carl were successful and this allowed them  to earn customers trust and gave them a strong foundation.  Now, in the  late 60s, the big  indoor malls started being built and many of the big named stores such as Macy's, JC Penney, and Sears in their heydays anchored these huge malls. The average indoor mall had up to 100 stores, representing merchandisers with interconnecting walkways that enable customers to walk from store to store.

In the sixties everyone was going mobile needless to say going to customer's homes for sales ended. Now, it was time for us to gear up our storefront for customers who wanted to come to us. This was an exciting time for us, it seemed like overnight we had our storefront cleaned up. We opened up a much bigger repair area, we painted the walls, we put in new carpet, added new bright lights, etc, we had inventories of new sewing machines, cabinets, parts etc, all ready for our incoming customers. We started selling much more, our customer base has always been loyal to us and this is the way our business has remained over six decades.

The patriarch of our business William Sr ( best known by family and friends  simply as Buck), died in 1989. Carl, William's brother, passed in 1993. personal note, William and Carl  were forever close, they both not only worked together and of course brothers,  but truly were like best friends. I would like to think that they are in Heaven talking sewing machines and maybe, sewing up a hem.

Gary, who is William and Marion's son and who worked alongside his parents since his early teens learned to have an great love for the sewing machine industry and after father's death continued with the business along with his other family members. You will see Gary on the sales floor of our store always eager to show you our latest models of sewing machines. Gary married his wife Sandy in 1992. Sandy is a wonderful sewer and is oftentimes at the store.  The matriarch of the company Marion, is now 89 years young and while many years retired,  still comes into the store whenever she wants to. Without question she is loved by all our family and our customers.

Brenda and Mary,  two of Gary's sisters work in the store. Brenda is Store Manager Mary works in accounting and customer services. We have a wonderful group of dedicated team members who are available to be of help to our customers to insure that we earn your business.

We have two highly trained mechanics. When it comes to sewing machines, we have it all sewn up! We're not fancy, we just try hard to be the best in the business. After 60 years in business, we're still going strong.  A-1 Sewing has some of  the  best sewing teachers in Atlanta. Come and meet with one of our sewist, all will be helpful with your sewing machine’s needs.

So, there is a little about us, we would love to meet you, we are going to keep you in stitches!  Please call us at 770-493-1229 or send us an e-mail message

Thank you, The Stepp Family

Hey everyone this is my Mom. I will let you in on a secret she hates this picture. I will love this picture forever. She is a wonderful person. God has been so wonderful to me and my Mom is one of his greatest gifts. I worked with my Mom after my Father became ill, she raised her five children on her own while working at our store and caring for Dad. She is one of the people you will meet who just leaves you in awe. The song that goes something like Count Your Blessings One By One. I know that God's blessings are one by one and when he let me be born the son of my Mom. I know he loves me. I was busy with a customer when our Janome Sales representative came into our store to give us a dealer award. My Mom had stopped by to say hello. Our Sales representative gave the award to Mom and took the picture. Mom had not been to the beauty shop yet, that is where she was headed when she had just stop in.  ha! ha!
